Plantation shutters

If you’re not keen on curtains or window film for your bathroom windows then plantation shutters are a brilliant, if more expensive, way to add style to your bathroom.    Plantations have become much more popular and available in the last little while and for good reason… they are a really elegant and clean look.

There are some cheaper options available to you with shutters.  If you have the time and the patience you can buy shutter kits, custom made to your window sizes, that you measure, paint and hang yourself.  For these check out www.portphillip.com.au, where they use paulownia timber, grown in Australia and with around the same strength as cedar.  So… you can save a rainforest at the same time as saving about half the normal cost.

And believe it or not, Bunnings now have a range of plantations as well.  They don’t have the middle vertical bar, but some people actually prefer that look anyway.   These are also made to your windows specifications, but again, you do the installation.

Film stars

If your bathroom or loo still has that horrible bubble or frosted privacy glass then it’s time to change!

Window film has come a long way and there are loads of graphic options you can choose from.

The old style bubble glass, and even just the all over frosted glass takes away all the beauty of a window.   They make me feel blocked in and claustrophobic.  Using window film with sweet botanical silhouettes or geometrical pattens or even words….your window becomes a nice feature and you still have a sense of the outside whilst maintaining all the privacy you could need.

For a nice variety of graphic options with the ease of online shopping…check out www.frostandco.com.au.  The UK based company, Frostbrite, at www.windowfilm.co.uk also have a great selection.

Blind faith!

If you’re thinking about updating your blinds, don’t do what everyone else in the world does and go boring white or neutral… be creative!

A centre panel of one colour framed with a pretty patterned fabric here looks so fresh and really draws the eye to the lovely window and outside view.

You can reverse the style by having the centre panel with a dramatic pattern bordered by two panels of a contrasting or matching colour as with the image above. The end result is a bold but classic look.

Here a really gentle pattern adds a sweet note to the quite traditional layout, softening what could have been an austere look with all the multiple architectural drawings hung symmetrically.

This final look is my favorite.  Black and white 60′s advertising photos have been screen printed onto the blinds.  The options today for printing and textiles means you are only limited by your imagination.  Remember, when the day is done and your blinds are down…why stare at a blank white rectangle when you can be staring at something that you realy love?
