I know it’s a touchy subject…but I do love a zebra rug. They’re amazing…and they make any space uber cool.
Image from www.articleria.com
The zebra markings work with anything. They add drama to a monochromatic scheme, and provide a great baseline for a look with multiple colours.
Image from www.elledecor.com
And they work in pretty much any room. From office to master to spare to lounge.
Image from www.shorleychic.blogspot.com
A really dramatic piece can either stand on its own and dominate a room…or be teamed with another dramatic element like the artwork here. For those who would like to be a lot bolder in their decorating, but lack confidence, a hide rug is a great way to go…and particularly a zebra hide. Once you have that in your lounge a world of colour and fun design will seem a lot more doable.
Image from www.desiretoinspire.net
Not sure which came first here…the yellow couch or the hide…but they work beautifully together.
Image from www. google.com
And I love the pairing of the soft pastel ruffles with the bold black and white stripes…v. cool.
Image from www.pinterest.com
Using zebra hide for upholstery can look amazing (love the nail head trim with the black and white).

This red version is gorgeous! If anyone knows where to get this please let us know!

I love the energy that red can bring into a room. I tend to use it as an accent… a dominance of red can overwhelm me a bit. Not to say that it doesn't look great… but I think it needs a lot of space, a fairly minimalist look and dramatic accessories. None of which I am or have. But adding splashes of red is fabulous for those like me who have lots of stuff and like to have it out.
If you love the idea of red, but are unsure as to how and how much…here are some really cool uses of it to inspire you….

Love these chairs against the wood and the white.

Red doesn't always mean slick and contemporary… the couch above is perfect for its eclectic apartment,

And this one is pure country cottage.

Red is an ideal colour for rugs, hiding marks better than most and giving you a strong backdrop for your styling palette.

Armadillo rugs have a gorgeous band rug available in red and white very similar to the one in the image from www.myhomeideas.com Check out www.iwanthomewares.com.au to purchase these at RRP$. There is no stylist mark up.

Granny blankets have got their groove back. No longer daggy…these warm reminders of another era hold their own against the mass produced blankets and throws our stores are flooded with.
Image from www.johanna-vintage.blogspot.com
You don’t have to have vivid primary colours… granny blankets look utterly gorgeous in a muted palette as well.
Image from www.dreamsmaylinger.tumblr.com
Really, they lend themselves to any colour scheme you could want.
Image from www.pickles.no.com
And given what they’re made of and how they are made…they’re extra soft and extra lightweight.

Love love love the green, yellow and pink.

If your nan isn’t forthcoming with your custom made blanket then check out www.etsy.com or go to Not on the High Street for these cool red and white ones.

It’s very easy to make a beach bedroom with a dominant white theme and a layering of soft blue accents as they have above. They look gorgeous, and they’re not very expensive to achieve (see upcoming post…).
But what about him? If you’re sharing this lovely coastal retreat with someone who’d like a look that’s a little less girly …below are some images to inspire…
Image from www.housetohome.co.uk
Love this look! And no boy could complain about it being girly. Painted panelling on the walls immediately beachifies a room. The soft tones of grey and wheat create a relaxed feel, while the bands of black on the bed ground the room, giving it real substance.
Image from www.housetohome.co.uk
This is such a fun look. Everything about it allows you to be messy..and still look gorgeous. From the ettamogah pub style four poster, to the layers of linen and the cool mix of striped rugs on the floor, this look is ace.
Image from www.freemangroupoflbi.com
This is a gorgeous bedroom…and when you’re making your dream bedroom by the sea, generally oars over the bed help in the negotiations!
Image from www.pinterest.com
The mix here of the beautiful woven pieces and the bold nautical striped rug is great. Bright, happy and relaxed..this is what a beach bedroom is all about.
Image from www.housebeautiful.com
My favorite…Love the duck egg blue walls against the limed panelling.
Image from www.pinterest.com
Whilst this is still a predominantly white room, the sturdy wooden bed, bedside table and artwork above the bed ensures it’s not too feminine.
Image from www.housetohome.co.uk
I had to include this image as it totally fits the brief of a beach bedroom for a guy. But I don’t like it…and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like the guy who sleeps there.
Image from www.theshootfactory.co.uk
If you want to look at some serious houses then check out www.theshootfactory.co.uk . Not only are the houses spectacular, the photgraphy is excellent as well.
Image from www.theshootfactory.co.uk
I love this open bedroom and ensuite! How great do those pendant lights look!? And the beautiful old floor really stands out with such simple and sweet styling.
Image from www.theshootfactory.co.uk
These deco armchairs are just fab…and I think my favorite pieces in a room of amazing things.
Image from www.theshootfactory.co.uk
Like most houses on the shoot factory, this one has amazing tall ceilings and windows, and these panel window shutters are just so much cooler than any other window treatment would be here.
Image from www.theshootfactory.co.uk
And finally…back to the bath! Note how the stylist hasn’t filled the room with small pieces. With the gorgeous kilim hanging behind the copper bath and that amazing cluster light hanging over the deco armchair…you just don’t need anything else!

Image from www.lushlee.com
Thank god colour is back! No more Sara Lee neutral layer upon neutral layer. That has its place and can look beautiful…but in every room?? Dull.
It’s still very sensible to have a neutral palette on your major pieces…couches, wall colour …but inject some life and fun with your acccessories.

Image from www.housetohome.com.au
Here the white walls and floorboards, and the classic wooden bench lay themselves open to any colour scheme you could want. The orange, purple and pink cushions work beautifully together and with the scarlet rug. And when the owner feels like a change…it’s totally affordable just with new cushion covers and a rug change.

Image from www.lushlee.com
Again, here, a white base is the perfect backdrop for a really vibrant mix of yellows, greens and blues. Rather than searching for that perfect neutral match that lacks personality, start buying decorative elements that you love, in colours that you love. You’ll find they all play well together in the end and the result will reflect you rather than bored display home stylists.

I’ve always wanted a beautiful handmade quilt, and I’ve finally accepted that I’m never going to get around to making one. For a beautifully made, custom designed quilt check out StarlitNestGifts at www.etsy.com You can choose the colours, size and style to make the perfect one for you.

With the Aussie dollar so strong, and shipping so inexpensive for light items, shopping from the states, particularly with fabric, is really affordable. Couple this with very reasonable prices from StarlitNestGifts (and a great turnaround time for a handmade item) and you’re on a winner.

What I love most about this shop is that they can make a quilt from your childrens old clothes. That sweet dress, or cute t-shirt you loved so much, that’s too small or is damaged can be preserved, along with all your memories of your little one at that stage.
