Good lighting in your home office is a must… and there’s no reason why it can’t look great on and off. Absolutely loving the long industrial pendant… fab!

Dual pendants give great individual lighting and have a gorgeous aesthetic.

My favourite desk lighting would be … the humble desk light of course! Fantastic for directional lighting… and just a stunning design.

Lamps are one of the most important elements in your home. And not just as light sources! Floor lamps are the perfect decorative element for an empty or dull spot and table lamps take up a large amount of visual space whether they’re on or off. So a lamp purchase is one to be considered carefully. Never just buy a lamp because one is needed. That’s how you end up with boring lamps that you can’t in a good, green conscience chuck. Consider the space it’s going to be in, and make a confident choice…you will never regret the purchase of a gorgeous statement lamp…but you’ll almost immediately regret buying a boring one.

This year we’re all having a love affair with colour, and the addition of a bright and beautiful lamp base is a great way of injecting colour into a neutral space. Some images to inspire…

Your bedroom should have an intimate, soothing feel to it…and lighting plays a crucial part in achieving this.
If you have an awful pendant in your bedroom …or worse, two down lights…or worse, four down lights…then every night I’m guessing you lie there looking up at them. Wouldn’t it be nice to lie there looking at a pendant you love?
Image from www.thepursuitaesthetic.tumblr.com
And how great would it be to have your bedroom look as fabulously complete as the two above do? I must admit… I’d never turn the exposed globes on while I was in bed…way too much light…but it looks amazing from across the hall!
Image from www.desiretoinspire.net
From groovy retro pendants like this one, to classic drum pendants with diffusers (to hide the globe and soften the light, see below)… …there’s the perfect pendant out there for your bedroom. btw.. How fantastic are the murals on the cupboard doors! What a cool way to pimp up what would normally be a boring, entirely practical wall.
Image from www.brynalexandra.blogspot.com
I love the pendants with diffusers for bedrooms…it’s great not to see a naked globe… the light is so much softer.
Image from www.style-by-design.blogspot.com
Love this mix… and a chandeleir with a yellow chain is a perfect fit for this room.

As is this simple retro pendant for this sweet wee room.

You do have to get an electrician in…but don’t be put off by that. If nothing else…get a quote…it may be a whole lot cheaper than you think.

If you have a room with poor natural light…it’s almost impossible to make it look fresh and welcoming.
But…
a basic skylight costs under $500 so there’s absolutely no reason to have a dingy, unlit room. Of course, there’s a million different types with a million different price tags…so do your research…always get three quotes, and think outside the square when designing. Use your angles, consider the space and be inventive.
Lots of great skylight designs to inspire you….

So… if you’ve got a dark room that you rarely go into … or worse, a dimly lit room that you’re often in…make a call to a skylight manufacturer near you. Better to get a quote and a few ideas, than to continue hating your room.

I push this every year…Christmas decorations don’t have to be garish and cheap looking…and you certainly don’t need tacky tinsel to get festive. There are loads of cool decorations you can buy or make yourself. Love these silver balls with red bows!
Image from www.google.com
And this is gorgeous! All they’ve done is skewer pretty paper doilies with the globes of the fairy lights.
V. clever.

We may have crazy temperatures over Christmas, and no snow, but white is a beautiful theme to have. And we shouldn’t have to do without snowflakes…they’re the prettiest Christmas decoration you can find.

For those of you after a more realistic Australian Christmas look fresh foliage is a great accessory

These home made labels are very cute.

And you’ve got to love a gingerbread man who can multi task.

Candles en masse are always amazing…for Christmas it’s worth taking a little time to theme them.

This is such a cool idea! If anyone has a groovy Christmas decoration they make let me know…I’d love to see.

When you’re sorting out your lighting please, please don’t just run down lights throughout the house. Take a little more time thinking about each area and the best light for it. There is nothing intimate or welcoming about downlights and a dining table should be both. Pendant lighting, on the other hand, ensures that the focal point is the table … drawing you to it.

There are thousands of amazing pendants out there if you want to make a statement.

Chandeleirs are a great choice for the dining room. Elegant and beautiful, they can complete a more formal look. Or, when teamed with distressed walls and metal chairs as they have been here, you get a groovier, informal feel.

Love the idea of overhead candlelight!

I don’t love the direct light you get from an exposed globe. But these types of industrial globe pendants do look amazing, and mulitples can look even better.

Open plan homes are the norm now so your kitchen and dining will often share the same lighting plan. That doesn’t mean they have to be the same. I love how they’ve paired a chandeleir with a porcelain pendant here…very cool.
Image from www.louloupear.blogspot.com
A cool step away from the tradtitional bedside table lamps is the pendant light.
A great design idea particularly if you don’t have a lot of space.
There are so many different types of pendants out there you can have a lot of fun with them. From ultra modern orbs to romantic chandeleirs there’s one for every type of bedroom. Symmetry doesn’t have to rule. You can have just one pendant and a lamp on the other side…ot two diffrent sizes ones…or two entirely different ones. A few images below to inspire….
