Basket case!

Image from www.frolic-blog.com

This is the time of year when a lack of organization will bite you on the ass.  Getting a spare room habitable for guests, even just locating the chrissy decorations can be a cinch or a nightmare… depending on whether you did anything about it last year.

Cabinetry is costly and permanent, but baskets are an inexpensive storage solution that can adapt to your changing circumstances.  And they work in every room in the house…

Love this!

There are so many different types of baskets you’re bound to find a style for you.

Image from www.potterybarn.com

From coastal cute…

Image from www.remodelista.com

To rustic charm…

Image from www.ecochic.com

Keep in mind that stackable ones are space savers for when they’re not in use.

Image from www.thehaystackneedleonline.com

Low ones are great for orgainizing little items.  Ikea have half size as well as the original size woven baskets that fit two to a cube in their expedit bookcases.

Image from www.luxuryhousingtrends.com

You can even get stair baskets…an extraordinarily good idea for Mum’s in two storey houses.

Image from www.countrydays.wordpress.com

And these wire ones are gorgeous.

Organising with baskets is not expensive and it’s not hard.  While you’re finishing off present shopping grab a cool selection and set yourself up for a smooth and organised new year.

Table top

Image from www.bustleevents.bogspot.com

It’s the season for entertaining, so it’s time to get your tabletop in order.

There’s a reason tablecloths are back in style…they’re fab!  They make a set table an event, rather than just another meal.  Put some colour and personality into your setting and both the evening and your guests will feel special.

Image from www.annesage.com

There are a number of cool online stores for contemporary tablecloths.  Anthropologie,  Pure Linen, Pom Pom Designs, I Want Homewares and Sally Campbell all have some great designs,

Image from www.anthropologie.com

Or you can go hunting for that perfect vintage piece.

Image from www.google.co.za

Image from www.livingtheswelllife.tumblr.com

Image from www.etsy.com

Etsy is a great site for vintage tablecloths…well vintage anything really.  Worth keeping an eye on.

If you can’t find anything ready made that takes your fancy, a tablecloth has four straight sides…even if you can’t do that, a seamstress is not going to charge you much to do it for you.

Here are some great designs to get you inspired.

And if you want to look christmassy, there are some great red cloths around that will look amazing and not like a National Lampoon Dining room.

Image from www.pompomdesigns.com.au

Love this paisley one from Pom Pom Designs.

Image from www.pompomdesigns.com

And love love love this!  Pom Pom is worth checking out.  Even if you’re not into too much of a pattern and want your decorations to do the talking they have this gorgeously elegant and simple option.

Image from www.pompomdesigns.com

Pure Linen have a red version of their signature table linen that is lovely…

Image from www.purelinen.com.au

And these two from anthropologie are fab for a christmas meal and won’t need to be hidden away for the rest of the year.

Image from www.anthropologie.com

Image from www.antrhopologie.com

Sally Campbell has gorgeous handmade Indian textiles and the design below would be stunning for Christmas.

Image from www.sallycampbell.com.au

Check your calendar, then your cupboards.  If you don’t have table linen but you’re hosting Christmas for the fam, then you may need to add that to your shopping list before the day.

Feeling ruffled?

Sorry for the lack of posts this week.  The site reached its limit for traffic…worse things have happened!   But with no access to the website for a few days I was starting to feel a little ruffled.   Which leads me seamlessly into the post I wanted to do monday…

If you haven’t discovered Urban Outfitters yet…take a minute when you get a chance.  They have great stuff.  The line they’re running that I love the most is the ruffles.

Image from www.urbanoutfitters.com

From $149 -$199 these are gorgeous.  Love the linen colour…but the blue below is stunning.

Image from www.urbanoutfitters.com

Image from www.urbanoutfitters.com

And if you weren’t feeling girly enough, you could go the soft pink.

Image from www.urbanoutfitters.com

But what I love, love love the most is this sensational shower curtain for only $79.00

I’ve just placed my own order… www.urbanoutfitters.com
